A couple lived for a year in a floating house made by shipping containers
In Port Severn, Ontario, a couple lived for a year in a floating house made by shipping containers. They started their live on water since April 2021.
For the owner, living on the water has always been a dream. So the couple purchased 4 sea crates, two of which form the bulk of the house and two for the garage and workshop.
This home has a fully equipped kitchen, fireplace, bedroom with king size bed and bathroom. According to the homeowner, the entire construction cost him $300,000 to $400,000.
The containers that make up the house are cut in multiple places to create a ventilated environment connected to the outside world. Any corner of the house can feel the hydrophilic atmosphere, and the lake and the surrounding environment have become part of this container building.
In order to live on the lake during the winter, the couple purchased services from the marina in Port Severn, including electricity to keep the house heated for the winter. The interior of the house retains traces of the use of containers, such as mottled wave siding, creating a retro industrial style.
